Historical Background
The “Kwong Yum Home” was established in 1902 by Rev. Matthew Kwong Yat Shau of Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui with an aim to serve the poor and helpless elders. It was taken over by The Hong Kong Chinese Christian Churches Union in 1918 and the “Diamond Hill Kwong Yum Home for the Aged” and the “Kwun Tong Kwong Yum Home for the Aged” was established separately in 1965 and 1982 to serve more Christian elders. Later, in view of the increasing number of ailing elders requiring fuller care, the Benevolence Department of The Hong Kong Chinese Christian Churches Union merged the two aged homes in 2014 to take care of the elders who needed assistance in their daily routine because of poor health and function loss or degeneration. At the same time it was renamed “ Kwun Yum Care Home” (KYCH) to provide services with the love and hope of Christ under the people-oriented philosophy. In 2022, "Integrated Aged Care Service" is added in the name of The Hong Kong Chinese Christian Churches Union Kwong Yum Care Home,to provide high-quality and innovative comprehensive care services for the elderly to meet the development needs of residential care and community elderly services.
