We have always been committed to providing our older adults with a serene and comfortable life, while placing great importance on family involvement. We firmly believe that pets are like family members and have a significant positive impact on the physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being of our older adults. For this reason, our home continues to implement the “Bring your Family Together” Pet-Friendly End-of-Life Care Program (BFT Program). We sincerely encourage family members to bring along your beloved pets (family members) when visiting, so you can share joyful and happy moments with your loved ones and reduce any regrets.
From Being Cared For to Becoming a Caregiver
Every morning, older adults rise to another day of being cared for. Day after day, even they themselves sometimes forget that they, too, were once caregivers. They were once the ones who cooked warm meals for their children, who worked tirelessly to raise their families, and who held up the sky for the ones they loved.
Yet, when interacting with furry friends and animals, a beautiful twist quietly unfolds. The moment an older adult offers a treat or gently combs their fur, they cease to be the passive “receivers of care” and assume the role as a “caregiver.” A sudden radiance returns to their eyes, in that tenderly exchange, they have rediscovered their very purpose and place in this world.
Animal Companions for Seniors
Our Home regularly invites animals and animal care professionals to visit older adults. Over the years, hedgehogs, geckos, and Shiba Inu dogs have all paid visits to Kwong Yam Home. In addition, our colleagues’ beloved pets have become part of our family: Jacky, a 10-year-old Shih Tzu; Fei Mui, a rabbit; and Chocolate, a poodle.
Under the Lord’s wonderful design, people and animals can share a bond of love and companionship, becoming a blessing to one another and helping to create a world filled with truth, goodness, and beauty.
